The dot SE ccTLD was launched in 1986 and given to Sweden. During the first years after its launch, the registration procedure was really restrictive, so a very limited number of domain names were booked. Persons were permitted to get no more than one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was mandatory, i.e. only Swedish persons, firms and organizations were able to purchase a .SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was loosened a lot and, accordingly, the number of dot SE domains has been increasing each year.
